Mā te tākaro ka ako mā te tākaro ka ora

Play is the Way® Behaviour education through wisdom not force

Awhi mai, awhi atu – Treat others as you would like them to treat you –if someone is not like you, seek to understand them

Whaia te Matauraka me ō hoa, ahakoa kowai – Pursue your personal best no matter who you work with. We don’t come to kura to learn to be better than others, we come to kura to better ourselves by being able to work with others.

Ma te whirikoka ka whai whakairo tika – it takes great strength to be sensible, we do the right thing because it is the best thing to do.

Whakaaro i te tuatahi mō ngā mahi ka mahia e koe – Have reasons for things you say and do, if you do not know why you do something then don’t do it because it’s probably wrong.

Kia rīrā, me uru! – when it comes to learning something new, be brave, just do it!

Te Pūau (Graduate Profile) o te kura māori o Arowhenua

It is our aspiration that by the time our tāmariki from Arowhenua Māori School leave, we want them to:

  • Toitū te iwi – Practice tikanga Māori with a focus on ngā uara Māori (values) in order to know who they are and where they are from

  • Toitū te pae tawhiti – Know their responsibilities as Māori while maintaining focus on their future learning

  • Toitū te rangatirataka – Experience academic success in order to create global, confident leaders who believe in themselves while respecting the diversity of others

  • Toitū te tūroa – Know their responsibilities as Māori in order to maintain all that has been passed down by their tīpuna

Arowhenua Māori School is situated at 33 Huirapa Street on the Arowhenua Pa, 5 minutes south of Temuka and 15 minutes from Timaru. Free transport is available from Temuka, Pleasant Point and Timaru and other areas by arrangement.

We are a full primary school (year1-8) that provides opportunities for students of all ethnic groups to learn in a 21st century environment that encourages high achievement while fostering and valuing relationships that lead to a sense of belonging and a desire to achieve personal excellence.
